Poco X3, a new CPU, fast-charging, and power for gaming
The first Poco series smartphone was quite something. After that came rebranded Redmi phones that just plain sucked. Today Poco launched their Poco X3. It packs a lot of new things but there are downgrades too. So without further ado, let’s start the analysis. See for yourself.
The design of POCO X3:
Thankfully this time Poco hasn’t copied the design from anyone. It’s by far an original design although I can’t find myself liking it. Let me explain. First of all, there’s a big POCO logo on the back of the phone that I totally dislike. After that the 9.5 mm thickness. It feels pretty hefty. Other than that everything is pretty mediocre.
The build is a plastic back with a fingerprint prone gradient finish. I don’t mind it because plastic doesn’t shatter or gets dents when dropped. In addition, I apply smartphone skins to customize the look anyway. So, bye-bye fingerprint magnet glossy plastic back. The device comes in two colors Cobalt Blue and Shadow Grey.
Other than that the Poco X3 comes with an IP53 rating that makes it pretty durable. There’s a downgraded hybrid sim card slot this time. IR Blaster at the top, USB-C, and speaker grills port at the bottom are there likewise. Another upgrade is that the Poco X3 now houses stereo speakers.
The display:
The display of Poco X3 is a 120Hz 6.67 inch IPS LCD 2400x1080p FHD+ display. Furthermore, it also houses the selfie camera on the top middle of the screen in a punch-hole design. On top of that, there is a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the display. The display is also HDR10 certified. The touch sampling rate is increased to 240Hz from 120Hz this time. Above all Widevine L1 support is there. SO you can play your Netflix shows on the highest settings possible.
UI and OS
There is nothing special in this part. The bloatware is still there although the adware is decreased very well. Furthermore, the app permission disaster is fixed too in the security app. Other than that, Android 10 based MIUI 12 is there. And how can we forget the Poco Launcher?
Cameras of Poco X3:
There’s a quad-camera setup at the back. The main shooter is a 64MP f/1.9 IMX682 sensor. Along with that, there is also a 13MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle lens with 119° FOV. And similarly, the setup also houses two useless cameras. a 2MP depth sensor and another 2MP macro camera. Brands need to stop doing this.
There is also the 20MP f/2.2 selfie camera on the punch-hole cutout of the display. I wish the punch hole was moved to the top-left corner but that’s that.
Videography is also pretty mediocre. 4k @30fps, 1080p @30fps and super slowmo video at 960 fps is present there. Other than that there is no OIS. But given the price point it’s not a deal breaker.
Internals:
This is a place where the upgrade is most powerful. The new Snapdragon 732G in Poco X3 is debuting in this phone that is to say. Assisting that 8nm architecture-based Octa-Core processor there is Adreno 618 GPU for your graphical needs. The upgrade from 730G is although very small, the increase in clock-speed still counts.
In the case of the RAMs, there is LPDDR4X 6/8GB of RAM. After that, the usual 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage is there. You can further upgrade this with the micro SD expansion slot. Likewise, Bluetooth 5.1 and WiFi 6 support is present due to the newer chipset.
The battery of Poco X3:
This part of the phone also got an upgrade. The thickness increase that I talked about is due to the 6000 mAh battery. It can clearly last 1.5 days. Even more, there is a massive 33 Watt charger included in the box. The phone can go from 0 to 100% in 65 mins. Similarly, half an hour of charge can boost the phone up to 62%.
So that was it for the Poco X3. The Indian version is launched at ₹16,999 which is even lower than the Poco X2. The global version also comes with NFC. So the phone has a bigger battery, fast-charging, a newer processor, a 120Hz display inside a weird design. Whether to like it or not is up to your choice. Have fun.
